As of about noon Friday, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s road closure listings showed 17 planned state road closures in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. Eight affect a driving lane or a turn lane. The other nine are shoulder closures only.
The listings come from the department’s Coordinated Highways Action Response Team (MDOT CHART). They do not include closures created by local jurisdictions, and they do not give start or end times or reasons for the closures. They refresh through the day, so conditions can change. Statewide, CHART listed 128 planned closures, including 12 in Montgomery County and five in Prince George’s County.
Montgomery County Lane Closures
Five Montgomery County closures affect lanes. MD 191 eastbound from Howell Road to Bradmoor Drive has one traffic lane and the shoulder closed. MD 410 eastbound from Brookville Road to Jones Mill Road has one of two right traffic lanes and the shoulder closed. MD 410 northbound from Sycamore Avenue to S Manor Circle and MD 410 westbound from Fenton Street to Georgia Avenue each have one lane and the shoulder closed. US 29 northbound from Lockwood Drive to Burnt Mills Avenue has one of three right traffic lanes and the right shoulder closed.

Prince George’s County Lane Closures
Three Prince George’s County closures affect lanes. MD 450 westbound from Laurel Bowie Road to Annapolis Road has one lane and the shoulder closed. MD 4 eastbound from Pennsylvania Avenue to Donnell Drive and MD 500 westbound past Hamilton Street each have the right turn lane and the right shoulder closed.
Shoulder Closures
Nine other planned closures involve shoulders only. In Montgomery County, they include I-270 northbound (right shoulder), I-270 southbound near miles 9 to 11 (one shoulder, listed twice), the I-495 Outer Loop near mile 10 (one of three shoulders), MD 190 eastbound at Brookside Drive, MD 198 westbound from Oak Hill Road to Veitch Lane, and MD 650 in both directions from Oakview Drive to Elton Road. In Prince George’s County, they include US 50 eastbound at Kenilworth Avenue (left shoulder) and US 50 eastbound near county mile 6 (right shoulder).
Check Before You Go
Because the listings do not say when each closure starts or ends, drivers who want current conditions can check Maryland 511, the state’s official traveler information service run through CHART. Drivers can also call 5-1-1.
