The DMV diaspora community has long dreamed of a marquee gathering that feels equal parts block party, cultural summit and music festival. That vision finally touches down on Sunday, July 20, when AfroPicnic transforms Arlington Beer Garden into a five-hour immersion in Afrobeats, Amapiano, Dancehall and every hybrid rhythm in between.

The debut edition unites a powerhouse slate of community collectives—TribeMeets, TANTV Africa, DreamTeam International, Distant Relatives, Ghana Girl Connect, Carbonado, Friends In, DND and others—in what organizers call a “diaspora collective first.” Guests can expect rotating DJ sets from DJ KO, Nzema Apollo and Quasar, Black-owned food trucks and merch vendors, photo installations, body-painting stations, grillz pop-ups, interactive games and surprise after-hours sets that keep the energy lit well past sunset.

But AfroPicnic isn’t only about vibes—it’s about village.

We’re excited to bring the very first AfroPicnic to the DMV! This event is more than a celebration- it’s a space to honor culture, build community, and give back to causes that matter, especially in times like these. We’re ready to create an experience that our attendees will never forget! Abigail Osei-Tutu, CoFounder of TribeMeets, highlighting the importance of collective celebration and uplift.

Organizers are betting on a crowd of 800-plus millennial and Gen Z professionals, and already drawing interest from local influencers, creatives, and professionals eager to tap into a space built on authenticity and celebration.

The event also extends beyond Arlington’s borders with a philanthropic edge: a portion of proceeds will go toward school supply drives in Ghana, Nigeria, and Ethiopia, as well as efforts to provide menstrual hygiene products for girls in need.

Community & giving back has always been a core pillar of Distant Relatives & we are excited for this collaboration. Through this collaboration, we would continue this vision by providing school supplies to the communities that we support in Ghana, Nigeria  & Ethiopia. Ruby Abaka-Yankson, data analyst, Distant Relatives, emphasizing the power of community & giving back.

The AfroPicnic Festival is set to transform Arlington Beer Garden into a vibrant cultural summit, celebrating Afrobeats, Amapiano, Dancehall, and the broader African diaspora experience. This event marks a historic “diaspora collective first,” bringing together community groups and creatives from across the DMV area.

In addition to live music and dancing, the event will feature on-site brand activations, giveaways, and even an after-hours celebration for those who want to keep the party going. AfroPicnic will feature engaging conversations with leaders from prominent diaspora organizations, offering attendees the chance to hear from voices shaping the future of African communities locally and abroad.

Now more than ever, we need to collaborate with organizations that elevate and authentically reflect our audience—especially after launching TANTV Africa, a new division dedicated to serving the African and Black multicultural diaspora. Adedayo Fashanu, O., CoFounder & CEO, TANTV, speaking to the role of collaboration in supporting Black creatives and entrepreneurs.

Organizers are still welcoming collaborators—from local influencers to mission-driven brands—keen to amplify the festival’s message. Brands and sponsors are also joining in, supporting not just the event, but the entrepreneurs and creators driving it. Tickets are available now at posh.vip/e/the-afropicnic, with sponsorships and vendor slots still open for those looking to connect directly with one of the region’s most vibrant and engaged communities.
