There’s something sacred about a slow summer Sunday—the kind where you sip something cold on the patio, sunlight hits just right, and you start thinking, maybe today I’ll actually go out and do something fun. If that’s you right now, let this be the gentle nudge you didn’t know you needed: AfroPicnic DMV is calling, and this isn’t one you want to miss.
AfroPicnic debuts, setting the table for a new kind of summer reunion in the DMV. The tables are set, the turntables are wired, and the only thing missing is you.
Hosted at the Arlington Beer Garden from 3 PM to 8 PM this Sunday, July 20th, AfroPicnic isn’t just another summer event. TANTV has always been proud to bring people together through storytelling, but this weekend, it’s all about showing up in real life, in color, and in rhythm. AfroPicnic is a curated experience for a culturally conscious, career-driven community that values authentic connections and fun, allowing guests to intentionally build relationships over food, culture, and music.

If you’ve seen any of the buzz online, you’ve probably caught Friends. In, Carbonado, TribeMeets, UABL, Ghana Girls Connect, Dream Team International and a slew of DMV community collectives all chiming in about the vibes. But it’s the spirit of collaboration that truly sets this event apart—everyone coming together and making magic as one big family.
Expect a living playlist instead of a flat DJ rotation—Afrobeats sliding into Amapiano, a Dancehall pocket, the occasional throwback. Quasar, DJ Rozay, Nzema Apollo, and others are set to keep the tempo lifted but not frantic; you can two-step, hold a conversation, or just sway with your plate. This is summertime communal, not nightclub compression.

This year’s premier edition of AfroPicnic is proudly sponsored by Africa’s most valuable Fintech, Flutterwave, courtesy of Send App by Flutterwave, its remittance product that enables people in the diaspora to send money to loved ones in Africa quickly, securely, and affordably. In the spirit of giving back, they’re offering up 20 free tickets to AfroPicnic. To enter, just download the Send App by Flutterwave, make a transaction, and send a screenshot of the confirmation over to them.

But the perks don’t stop there. Arrive early, because the first thirty guests get free entry. On top of that, early attendees can also snag special activations, like complimentary body-painting by @Bodypaintbynia or a sparkle of tooth gems from @NativesGem before the beats even drop.
If You Read This Far
Take it as your sign not to overthink. Decide now. Text the friend who always says, “let me see,” and convert them to “I’m in.” So, finish your iced tea, grab that friend who keeps promising to “do something different,” and meet us under the string lights at Arlington Beer Garden. Tickets are still floating around—though, if history is any guide, good energy sells out fast.
See you Sunday on the grass. Come for an hour or the whole stretch—just come.
