Dynastic Wealth for the Diaspora: How Families Are Building Legacy Across Continents

Dynastic Wealth® for the Diaspora ignites a global movement of ancestral power and economic sovereignty, revealing how Black families worldwide can reclaim wealth and secure legacies beyond borders.

There is a rising wave of liberation among people of African descent around the world. From the streets of Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou, to the convention halls of Hobart Tasmania, where the Australia Afropreneur Summit will convene on June 14, 2025, we are witnessing a resurgence of ancestral power—a call to reclaim what has been systematically withheld from us for centuries. At the heart of this movement is not just political power, but economic sovereignty. We are not only fighting for freedom—we are fighting for the ability to fund our freedom. This is where Dynastic Wealth® begins.

As part of my work on the Fulbright Specialist Roster, I had the honor of addressing over 100 entrepreneurs of African descent from across the globe who participated in the African Descendant Social Entrepreneurs Network (ADSEN) workshop in Baltimore, Maryland. These were leaders, visionaries, and wealth creators from all over the world, including Australia, Colombia, Japan, Spain, the U.S. and several countries from Africa.  While each participant brought their own unique cultural insights and business experiences, a common thread emerged: No matter where we are in the world, the impact of anti-Black systems and extractive economics are hauntingly similar.

During a particularly moving moment, an attendee from Australia shared something I will never forget. In the part of my talk where I shared research on 150 years of the Black Wealth Experience in America, I admitted to the audience that I was nervous about generalizing the Black experience through a western lens. But the attendee said, “We are having the same conversations in my family in Australia.” Our families are fighting the same battle. That is the moment that I knew: the work of Dynastic Wealth®—the work of helping families get on the same page about money and wealth—is not bound by geography. It is not limited to the American context. It is a framework for the African Diaspora.

Dynastic Wealth® Begins Where the System Ends

Dynastic Wealth®, different from generational wealth, sits at the intersection of business, culture, and politics. The more familiar term phrase “generational wealth” is often surface-level and rooted in mainstream financial advice that ignores our lived realities and life experience. Dynastic Wealth® is deeper. It is spiritual, intellectual, and relational. It recognizes that the trauma we carry around money is not ours alone—it is inherited. But so is our power to heal, build, and secure.

While governments and global systems continue to devalue Black life and labor, Dynastic Wealth® begins at home—with the family as the economic nucleus. It teaches us to protect our assets, document our expertise, educate our children, and build trust within our own households before expecting it from the outside world. It is an act of resistance. It is a roadmap to liberation that does not require permission.

And this path is not walked alone.

Traore’s Liberation is Our Inspiration

One of the most profound examples of this liberation mindset on the world stage is Ibrahim Traoré, the young president of Burkina Faso. In the face of enormous western pressure, Traoré has taken bold, nationalist steps to reclaim his country’s autonomy. As highlighted in his TANTV feature, Traoré’s protectionist economic stance has been compared to populist movements in the West, but his motives are rooted in something much deeper—something that goes beyond survival to complete sovereignty. He is not just protecting Burkina Faso’s borders. He is securing its future. Traoré is doing what many of us must do in our families and businesses—breaking ties with systems that were never built to serve us.

Traoré’s leadership is symbolic of what is possible when oppressed people take full control of their resources and rewrite the rules of engagement. He is a mirror for all of us—especially those of us who have been told that liberation is too risky, too radical, and too unrealistic. Traoré is rewriting history on the world stage. He is showing us not only what could have been but what will be as we step into the wealth that is our birthright.

Family First. Community Next. Legacy Always.

Dynastic Wealth® starts with a conversation at the kitchen table, but its ripple effect is limitless. It reorients our values. It asks: Who is your family becoming? What legacy are you creating on purpose? What truths do you need to unlearn in order to thrive?

This framework has helped families in the United States unlearn financial trauma, document their professional knowledge, protect their assets, and pass down more than just money. And as Chase reminded me—this work is just as relevant in Australia, as it is in the Caribbean, and in Africa. We are not starting from scratch—we are returning to legacy.

The Diaspora Deserves More. We Must Take More.

The Diaspora is ready; ready to stop waiting for validation; ready to invest in our own futures; ready to align our families around wealth and power. The same power that lives in Chase’s family, in the entrepreneurs I met through Fulbright, and in leaders like Ibrahim Traoré, also lives in you.

Let us not wait for systems to fix themselves. Let us take more control within ourselves, our families, our villages and our tribes to build new systems—rooted in trust, tradition, and truth.

Dynastic Wealth® is how we reclaim our narrative, rewire our relationship with money, and resurrect the legacies our ancestors never had the opportunity to complete. A free copy of the checklist is available here.
