Here’s another big detail on GTA VI’s world dynamics that most of us might have missed

2 mins read

The most prominent factor of GTA VI is the map it has. It might be one of the largest of Rockstar’s open world maps yet. However, this won’t be a plain map used as just a backdrop. With so many elements discussed by Rockstar Games and GTA VI producers and developers, we know that there are multiple interactive elements already within the game. However, are we forgetting one of the most subtle and important part of any environment? The weather.

How’s the Weather?

It is confirmed that the weather of the GTA VI game is diverse and immersive. The details within the game’s environment is heavily detailed and focused upon with multiple elements added. And honestly, with such a long wait, this might even be reasonable.

From flat games to GTA VI

Rockstar has went from flat games like the early GTA games, GTA: London 1969, to games like Red Dead Redemption and GTA VI. With the GTA series, it is safe to say that Rockstar has modified current games by a long jump, beginning with GTA III as the driver and GTA V being the most popularised product.

The biggest map of Rockstar yet

Upgrading from GTA V, Rockstar is levelling up with GTA VI. It bring new stories, new dynamics, new features and a new look. The game is vast and heavy, taken more than a decade to be curated. At some point, it was confirmed that the game has a bigger map than GTA V, its recent hit and prequel of GTA VI series-vise. Furthermore, the game is inspired by Florida state, canonically.

Florida as an Inspiration for Leonida

Since Florida is a state with diverse weather, so is Leonida, the map of GTA VI. It is noted by IGN that the game provides simulated weather conditions similar to that of Florida. There are notable hurricanes and storms within the game.

Built on Red Dead Redemption 2

GTA VI’s weather isn’t starting from scratch. Rockstar has rebuilt the weather system from Red Dead Redemption 2, making it more localised and persistent, so the effects of a storm stay around after it has passed. According to Game Informer, puddles and wet surfaces stay on the roads after the rain moves on, and rainbows can even appear after a fresh shower. There’s also a new wind system that, as per Rockstar’s Owen Shepherd, includes offshore breezes after sunset, updrafts, and wind blocked by buildings. If RDR2’s skies were anything to go by, Leonida’s will be worth looking up at.

What do they say?

The director for the game in charge for lighting and rendering has quoted “the world features new fully dynamic cloudscapes that roll across the map” as per IGN. This means that the weather is heavily localised to the map, it may rain on one side and the other may have a sunny day.

The visuals on weather is yet to be provided

Although Rockstar has provided deeper looks on the game mechanics and storyline, the weather system is yet to be highlighted in the early looks. We see that the game has realistic details, so a rolling weather system is not unexpected.

Is the wait worth it?

The gaming community has been waiting for GTA VI to arrive for more than a decade to release after GTA V. While the wait has been long, these details to the game’s mechanics and physics makes the wait worthwhile. Furthermore, a game that has been creating so much suspense might get a boom bigger than any yet.
