Campbell’s Pepperidge Farms debuts a cookie they’ve dubbed a first-of-its-kind innovation on the cookie aisle: Sourdough Cookies. Made of real sourdough and special ingredients. The ultimate objective is for the cookie to be soft and chewy, the company says.
Why sourdough
Sourdough is the top bakery trend for 2026, according to the brand. Pepperidge Farm’s new take on this ingredient, most familiar in bread, is a cookie format where it’s not often found.
Dark chocolate sourdough with brown butter
The dark chocolate chunk flavor has three flavors: the first featuring a dark chocolate chunk flavor with a rich brown butter taste. The brand claims that the two are in equal weights. Parade said the taste is reminiscent of the classic chocolate chip cookie.
Cinnamon sugar sourdough with vanilla bean
The second flavour is a blend of cinnamon and crunchy pearl sugar. The profile is rounded off with a subtle vanilla note. It’s the most traditional of the three flavors: grounded in ingredients you’re used to finding in a lot of cookies at your house.
White chocolate sourdough with raspberry
The third one runs with creamy white chocolate bits and vibrant raspberry stuff. According to Parade, the raspberry is tart and fruity. This is the only fruit item in the collection!
Package size and price
Two sizes are available, each 8.6 oz., and available in 8 flavors. The suggested retail price is $5.89 per package, and it is the same for all three flavors. Prices at individual stores may vary.
Available now at Walmart
The cookies are arriving at Walmart stores this month, and they’ll be available to purchase in other stores later this week. But if you’re looking to try one right now, you’ll need to go there, as no other store is selling them at this time.
Nationwide rollout in January 2027
Expansion of the launch is expected to happen in January 2027. The cookies are supposed to be sold at retailers such as Amazon, Kroger and Target after that, according to Pepperidge Farm. Stocking may vary from one area to another, so customers should always check with their local stores.
A permanent addition to the lineup
The Sourdough Cookies are different from other specialty cookie releases, and are anticipated to remain on shelves. The reports on the launch state that they are no longer a ‘limited time offer’, but rather a very permanent one. This is not a traditional launch of the Pepperidge Farm cookies, as the company has introduced several new limited flavors of its popular cookie lines lately.
How it fits with recent releases
This brand already launched Salted Caramel, Cinnamon Sugar and Brown Butter Pecan varieties for its Chessmen line earlier this year. This was something new of an old favorite cookie. The new kind of cookie is its own in the Sourdough Cookies, which launch in 3 flavors.
